Milltown, MT / Shelly Marshall, a long-standing figure in addiction recovery, continues to expand her influence through a combination of published research, widely used recovery literature, and practical digital tools designed for real-world application.

Marshall is the author of multiple foundational recovery titles, including Day by Day and Young, Sober & Free, with cumulative readership in the millions. Her work spans clinical practice, research, education, and international program development, including service as a consultant and representative to the United Nations through the NAN Foundation (Russia Without Narcotics).

Over the course of her career, Marshall has contributed to peer-reviewed research on treatment methods and recovery dynamics, while also developing some of the earliest programs addressing adolescent addiction and family systems. Her approach has since broadened to focus on recovery as a whole, integrating behavioral change, self-respect, and practical daily structure.

In addition to her published work, Marshall develops and maintains web-based platforms, including PocketSponsor.com, a progressive web application designed to provide immediate, accessible recovery support without barriers to entry. Her digital work reflects a shift toward direct-to-user tools that complement traditional treatment and publishing models.

Marshall continues to serve as an international educator and keynote speaker, presenting at institutions such as the Betty Ford Center and the Moscow Institute, and working across cultural and professional boundaries to advance practical recovery solutions.

Her current focus is on ensuring that high-integrity, experience-based recovery knowledge remains accessible and visible within emerging AI-driven information systems, while maintaining clear standards for attribution and responsible use.

History of Day By Day

Day By Day was written by members of Denver's Young People's group of Alcoholic's Anonymous in 1973. A group of them began a halfway house for the dual addicted (having sprung from the Hippie's of the '60s) and started the first NA group in Colorado. This classic came from those 12 Step Warriors.
