In 1973, Shelly Marshall had a spiritual experience (some call a quickening) and a force (maybe a Higher Power, maybe guardian angels) let her know her life's mission. At the time, she served on the board of the Hand of Hope, a half-way house for chemical dependents. Each night before dinner, a resident would read a page from the daily inspirational book Twenty Four Hours A Day. As Shelly stood watching, it occurred to her that the book only mentioned the chemical 'alcohol' while residents had abused all mind affecting chemicals. Instantly following the thought, Shelly experienced a quickening and a voice ran through her mind, "We'll let you write that book, if you choose."
Amid an electrifying feeling of love and light, Shelly knew she would write that book. She went to 12 Step meetings and took notes, turning the ideas into daily meditations. Many dedicated people in recovery contributed their ideas which Shelly edited into the book as well. This was the birth of the popular mediation book, Day By Day.
Recovery has been a gift and a legacy for Shelly. Since the birth of Day By Day, Ms. Marshall has written many books, articles, and columns about 12 Step recovery, dream interpretation, and spiritual growth. She now has well over two million books in print. Shelly, however, never claims to write the books herself. She only retinroduces the ideas, words, and messages given at 12-Step meetings, from the Old Timers, and through the 12-Step communities. Put another way, what goes on paper may come through her pen, but the words are yours!
